Despite losing the left horizontal stabilizer and a good portion of the vertical fin and rudder, the crew continued on to release their bombs on the target. They then managed to fly the heavily damaged Boeing back to Thorpe Abbot and land successfully. <image:title>European Theatre - победа (victory)</image:title>
<image:caption>This painting commemorates the 70th anniversary of a major turning point in World War II. In July 1943 the Soviet Army and Air Force blunted Hitler's effort to conquer Russia. This confrontation, the battle of Kursk was a severe blow to the Nazis and a great boost to Russian morale. A key element in this victory was the Ilyushin 2 Sturmovik, a rugged and versatile ground attack aircraft. Heavily armoured and armed, the IL-2 protected the crew and was capable of delivering massive firepower. This scene depicts a Sturmovik pulling out of a low pass on a Tiger Tank of the 'DAS REICH' division. Oil on canvas</image:caption>

<image:title>C-7A Caribou operations - Almost a Bad Day, August 1968</image:title>
<image:caption>This picture is based on an incident that took place during the siege of Duc Lap, a Special Forces camp in the central highlands of Vietnam, near the Cambodian border. While the camp was under attack, we were tasked with the evacuation of GIs and ARVN forces. Heavily overloaded, we staggered into the air and were barely able to keep above the trees. As we rounded a hill, we were faced with a CH-54 Skycrane carrying a truck on a sling. We were both slow and had no ability to maneuver, but with takeoff flaps selected, I managed to get the Caribou into a left turn, passing in front of the helicopter and missing by about 100 yards. <image:caption>Not a sports car at all, The Somerset was a family saloon car that supplanted the Austin Devon in 1954 and could tear up the roads at a blistering 69 mph. It became a common sight on British roads as more families became car owners. There was also a convertible version available.</image:caption>

<image:title>Falklands War - Is this a dagger which I see before me (Macbeth III,i,3)</image:title>
<image:caption>21 May,1982 May 21 was a busy day of war. The British landings in San Carlos Water provoked a strong reaction by the Argentine air force, and during fierce aerial combat an estimated nine enemy aircraft were shot down. In mid-afternoon Lt. Cdr. R.V. “Fred” Frederiksen, serving with 800 Squadron RNAS on HMS Hermes, was leading a flight of two Sea Harriers with sub-lieutenant Andy George as his wingman. At low level and under a layer of cloud the pair spotted a flight of four Dagger ground attack aircraft approaching the Task Force. Closing behind the last of these, Frederiksen launched an AIM-9L Sidewinder air-to-air missile to bring down Lieutenant Hector Luna's jet. He then sprayed the leader of the enemy formation with cannon fire. Luna ejected at low level and was lucky to land on the side of a mountain, from where he was rescued.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Latest works - Boxgrove Priory (ruins)</image:title>
<image:caption>Boxgrove Priory, Boxgrove, West Sussex. I went over there to have a look at the grave of Billy Fiske, an American Hurricane pilot who died flying for the RAF in the Battle of Britain. At a time when the US was not involved in the war, a few Americans put themselves in harm’s way to defeat the Nazis. Fiske was stationed at Tangmere in 602 Squadron and was shot down during the attack on the airfield on 16 August 1940. He managed to land his badly damaged Hurricane, but died of severe injuries and burns a day later. In accordance with his wishes, he is interred in the churchyard at Boxgrove Priory church, which is adjacent the the ruins pictured here. His headstone bears the inscription “He died for England”. In addition, On 4 July 1941, a plaque was unveiled in the crypt of St Paul's Cathedral, London. The inscription reads: “An American citizen who died that England might live”. It’s worth remembering people like him. Pen and Pencil, A4 cartridge paper.</image:caption>

<image:title>Galleries - Is this a dagger which I see before me (Macbeth III,i,3)</image:title>
Luna ejected at low level and was lucky to land on the side of a mountain, from where he was rescued. Oil on canvas. <image:title>Galleries - Almost a Bad Day, August 1968</image:title>
Sighs of relief all around. Pencil Prints available through the C-7A Caribou Association: http://www.c-7acaribou.com</image:caption>
